Medicare Savings Program (MSP)

Many Seniors don’t know that if their individual or married income is below a certain level, they may qualify for help to pay their monthly Medicare Part B premiums, along with their monthly Medicare plan premiums, deductibles and co-insurance.

The State of Connecticut offers financial assistance to eligible enrollees through their “Medicare Savings Programs”.

A little-known fact is that Connecticut is one of only a handful of states where it doesn’t matter what assets you have accumulated or your net worth. The Medicare Savings Programs focus thru the State of Ct. is on monthly income alone.

Monthly income includes Social Security, Pensions, Annuity income (monthly average), plus any Required Minimum Distributions from an IRA or a 401k. Investment interest earned thru CD’s, Savings accounts and Money Market accounts as well as Investment Real Estate income should also be included.

As an important part of our Retirement Planning services, all of our new clients receive a Medicare Savings Plan (MSP) evaluation to determine if they qualify (based on monthly income) to have help paying the current $144.60 2020 Medicare Part B monthly premiums.

Whether they were new to Medicare or on an existing Medicare plan, over the years our company has helped dozens of individuals get approved and have their Part B monthly premium amount added back into their monthly Social Security income.

Did you newly qualify for the Medicare Savings Program from an application we sent in for you? Do you currently get help from the State of Ct.? Besides having your Medicare Part B premium payed for you may also qualify for special Medicare Advantage plans, with no monthly premiums, no deductibles and no co-insurance payments.

We have found that many older Seniors in their 70’s & 80’s have limited monthly income. They are not aware they qualify for this financial assistance with their Medicare, and may have for many years but didn’t know it. This is especially true after a death, when they lose a spouses Social Security income.

If you have given us the privilege of assisting you with your Medicare and/or Retirement Planning, we would be happy to review your parent’s circumstances as well. We want you to know if they qualify for any financial assistance through the Medicare Savings Program.
Of course, we would also be happy to review their Medicare plan to see if without losing the level of benefits they currently have, we can save them any money.

Our goal with Medicare is to assist you in obtaining all the benefits you are entitled to based on your circumstances. We consider it a privilege to serve you and/or your family with ALL your Medicare needs.

Our company was founded by Terry Predzimirski to help guide Seniors nearing retirement with their Medicare insurance decisions. Over the years it has gradually grown into a Retirement Planning firm. Helping Seniors with their Medicare decisions still remains an integral part of the company’s dedication to helping Seniors with this vital part of their Retirement Planning puzzle.

Please continue reading why Terry decided to switch his insurance career from group health coverage and instead focus on Medicare insurance.

Terry was born and raised in Seymour, Ct. until he was 15 yrs. old when his father died. Shortly afterwards, him and his mom moved to Vermont with his grandparents. At 20 yrs. old he moved to Houston, Texas where he met his wife and they eventually moved to Dallas, Tx. for a couple years. After having their daughter Tessa in Texas, his family moved to Charlotte, N.C. in 1987 near where his wife grew up as a child. His second daughter Savanna was born shortly thereafter. Terry currently has four grandsons from the ages of 8-13 years old. He has two granddaughters ages 4- 6 yrs. old.

Terry decided to move back to Connecticut almost a decade ago to help care for his aging parents. His mom is currently 83 yrs. young and his stepdad is now 96 yrs. young. As mentioned at the outset, he began a career in group health insurance. His mom Phyllis eventually asked him for help with her high cost Medicare Supplement Plan where she was paying a premium of $249 per month. She also was perplexed why she was paying $75 per month for a premium on her Medicare Prescription Drug Plan when she was only on one medicine for her thyroid.

Sadly, after visiting with a Medicare agent referred by a friend that had just turned 65, it was soon discovered that Phyllis had been overpaying for her costly Medicare Supplement and Prescription Drug Plans.

It soon became evident that because Phyllis was healthy for her age and hadn’t stayed overnight in the hospital for decades, she should have been on a $0 monthly premium Medicare Advantage Plan instead of a Supplement and standalone Prescription Drug Plan.

The Medicare agent also qualified Phyllis for the Medicare Savings Program. The Medicare Part B monthly premium she had been paying was soon being payed for by the State of Ct. After only three (3) months it was added back to her monthly Social Security income that was automatically deposited into her checking account each month (She eventually received a reimbursement check from Social Security for the three months it took them to make the adjustments to her account).

Sad but true, the Medicare agent that enrolled Phyllis in her Medicare Supplement and standalone Prescription Drug Plan never bothered to see if she qualified for the Medicare Savings Program. Terry soon became aware that this is the status quo for many Medicare agents in Ct. They do not know how to help them fill out applications and send them to the State of Ct. to determine if they qualify for the Medicare Savings Program.

Happily, after Phyllis changed to a Medicare Advantage Plan that worked along with the Medicare Saving Program, she was able to discontinue her Supplement and Prescription Drug Plan at a tremendous savings to her. After you factor in the Medicare Savings Program with the State of Ct. now paying her Medicare Part B monthly premiums, Terrys’ mom had a total monthly savings of over $460 per month. That’s an annual savings of over $5,000 per year. For someone on a limited income and budget that is a substantial amount of money!

In conclusion, soon after this experience with Terrys’ mom, Phyllis, it’s motivated Terry to switch his insurance focus to Medicare insurance. Even now as a Retirement Planner, it is still Terrys’ goal to make sure his clients get ALL the benefits under Medicare insurance that they are entitled to based on their circumstances.

Because his mom overpaid for her Medicare for so many years, Terry and his company COMPASS Retirement Planning Solutions want to help prevent you and other Seniors in Connecticut from making the same mistake.
